Kariana Colon (Class of 2024) presented the work she did as part of the Chick-EES project at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) Undergraduate Research Symposium on 4/2/2025. Kariana joined the Chick-EES project in Fall 2024 and spent two semesters performing DNA extractions and PCR assays, and identifying insects from sweep net samples. As part of her undergraduate research project, she used statistical tests to look for associations between bacterial prevalence in chicken poop and weather variables, and whether the presence of chickens affected insect communities. Kariana was awarded the CAES Undergraduate Research Initiative ($1000) for her work! Congrats, Kariana!
